Fifth Of Heaven - Just A Little More 1989 – Mix Out

Classy UK Soul which was rightly HUGE at time of release during the hot summer of 1989. I believe this group were based in the Manchester area, and the style was unarguably founded on classy US styles yet had a definite classy UK feel to it too. Fifth Of Heaven released, as far as I know, 3 singles in the 80s / early 90s - “Without You” and “I Need Your Love”, as well as recording an Uber-rare single under the name of Four Fifths Of Heaven in 1988. The group consisted of Steve Williams, Andy Hickey and sexy, sultry vocalist Denise Johnson. Together they made real magic on this sumptuous groove.

I first heard this on Richard Searling's Red Rose radio show, “Soul Sauce” and instantly fell in love with it. If only he played classy new SOUL stuff like this today instead of that dreary urban R&B stuff! Considering it's almost 20 years old it has stood the ravages of time without any effect at all and therefore in my reckoning makes it one of the classiest UK soul recordings ever made. The sensual bassline, synth and sexy vocals cannot put a step wrong. I know that I will always be spinning this cut and if this is a new one on you then seek one out ASAP. Available on 12” and 7” on the small Mix Out label from the UK.
