Another gem of a single from 1986 released on the J&G label. This was very scarce at time of release and cost a small fortune to try and track down. Today it is a lot easier to find and at a far more affordable price. Dunn Street have had several incarnations – you will know of Dunn and Bruce Street, and Dunn Pearson, Jr – well this is, in effect the one and very same outfit led by Dunn Pearson. I am not convinced that the song was actually recorded in 1986, it has a feel of 1983 but in the 80s independent music world anything was possible. The 12” A Side romps home at almost 6 minutes, but for an overall better flavour I have added the 7” version – included on the flipside along with a full-length instrumental version. Why no-one has included this gem on a legitimate compilation I have no idea. I wish Expansion would let me lose on a compilation! Come on Ralph, let's have a bash! LOL. This track is lovely and although not up to the rigours of the quality we were used to with the major labels, the track really does reside in a class of it's own. Catchy with a sing-along hook, “Even A Fool” should be a key part of any collection by any soul fan worth their salt.
