Bryan Loren - Lollipop Luv (aka Bryan Loren) 1984 - Philly World Records

Originally released on the Philly World record label, Hot records in Miami re-released this album, originally released back in 1984, late in 1996. Bryan's album was not given enough credit on its original release and so it's only fitting that Soulchoonz, dedicated to highlighting classic music from our past should put the record straight now. The whole album is a testimony to the vocal prowess of Bryan and the production talents of production Supremo, Nick Martinelli, who literally oversaw the whole set. It is a typically stylish mid 1980s from start to finish. With plenty of excellent mid-tempo classics and dancers, there will be something on here for everybody. If you were impressed by Eugene Wilde's hits “Personality” and “Gotta Get You Home Tonight”, Joanna Gardner's “Pick Up The Pieces”, or Terri Wells' “You Make It Heaven”, then do not delay in hunting down this album.

Vocally, Bryan has some similarities with Eugene Wilde, and not bad considering he was but 15 years old at the time! All 8 tracks are worth a mention, but let's focus on “Easier Said Than Done”, “For Tonight” and the tremendous “Falling In Love” and then realise what talent there is here. Don't be put off by the (then) tender years of the recording artist as the music is excellent and the vocal delivery is mature. “Stay With Me” should erase any doubts...my God, what a scorching ballad! The synth soul of “Take All Of Me” proves you cannot deny the maturity here. An album that was a very welcome re-release and is easily available on vinyl to this day.
